covers

if you've ever dug for records at a goodwill, you know that vinyl treasures are few and far between, and that goodwills are apparently where all the mantovani and jim nabors albums go to die. this does not stop me from flipping through every single musty record whenever i go to one. and with most lps priced at 99¢ or $1.99, it's about the only record shopping i can afford to do right now. it's really not so bad though. i stock up on yacht rock and occasionally find something really legit, like a nice copy of nancy & lee or sometimes even... nancy & lee again. often, i'll buy a record simply because of the cover.

i mean how could you not take this one home?

when life gives you anthology of soviet jazz records, you make anthology of soviet jazz recordsade.

i will start a shoegazer band. we will be called "concern" and this will be the cover of our eponymous debut.

predominantly orange?

the font, the shirts, the funny haircuts--it's all happening on this one. and the music ain't half bad either. bonus.

apparently this clown was born on february 24th, the same day as me. there's a lot to take in on this one so take your time.

touch that chest hair?

okay, so this was not a goodwill score. it came from a real record store. nevertheless, this cover is more or less flawless. it also gets extra credit for the crudely hidden logos on the beer cans.

flickr

a long time ago, i set up a flickr account. i did not really use it though. when i started this blog, i tried to reestablish contact. unfortunately, i have no idea how to access it. so i created a new one. i have to use a new screen name because "Waylon Solos" was already taken by me. so now i am "Waylon_Solos." i have linked to it up on the right. check out my first batch of photos which includes pictures taken with my beloved but currently defunct AE-1 (a few below to whet the appetite) and a more complete set of my microwaved polaroids. stay holy!

anybody remember these guys?

medium rare cd from 1999 i think. liner notes:

found on the 71

i found this three ring binder while riding the 71 bus with pliska. the front cover is exquisitely illustrated. the pics enlarge when you click on them:

on the back cover, a clue as to the author:

if this alex b??? AKA cartoon chuckie ever gets famous, i'm totally cashing in. and speaking of finding stuff, the good reverend recently launched a "found at school" blog dealing with... stuff found at school. please sausage link to it at your soonest convenience.

mind-melting polaroids

one night last fall, while loitering at my local walgreens, i decided to treat myself to a polaroid camera. i have always wanted one (the shitty little i-zone that i used to have doesn't really count), but the high price of film had long been a deterrent. and now the price of film will likely increase because they're gonna stop making it. shame that, because conventional and digital cameras just do not satisfy like instant film.

for a good time, try zapping a still-developing polaroid in the microwave for a second or two. as seen below, it makes for some genuine strangeness. BE ADVISED: THIS IS A POTENTIAL FIRE/HEALTH HAZARD AND IT COULD RUIN YOUR MICROWAVE. have fun!
